Make in India week: PM Modi opens center in Mumbai

PM Modi has inaugurated the Make in India center at the Bandra Kurla complex in Mumbai. It’s week long series of events to showcase India as preferred manufacturing destination.

The ‘Make in India’ Week, touted as the largest business expo hosted by the country. PM Modi at inauguration of the Bombay Art Society said, “Art is Ageless, Race, Region or Religion less and Timeless”.

Modi was accompanied by the prime ministers of Sweden and Finland, and the Polish deputy PM. In attendance will be 2,500 foreign delegates and 8,000 representatives of Indian companies to participate in the exhibition which will go on for five days from February 13-18 in the city.

Delegations from 17 states across India have already parked themselves in the country’s financial capital 24 hours ahead of the event.

At least four MoUs worth at least Rs 64,000 crore are expected to be signed on the first day of the event.
‘Make in India’ Week aims at promoting India as the preferred manufacturing destination, globally. Over the course of a week, it will offer access and opportunities to connect with Indian and global industry leaders and central and state governments.

After the initiative was launched last year, India surpassed China and the US as the top destination for Foreign Direct Investment.

The Make in India week, in the Prime Minister’s own words, “celebrates the achievements of the manufacturing sector and offers insights into the investment opportunities in India.”
The Prime Minister is expected to hold bilateral meetings with senior foreign leaders from different countries during the week.

 

 

Also, there were rumblings of discontent from Shiv Sena as Uddhav Thackeray was not invited to any of the inaugural events on Saturday that will be attended by Modi. Officials cited Union government protocol for the development.
As the chief of a political party without any constitutional post, protocol does not allow for Thackeray’s presence, an official said.
