We all have played war based games, most of the games we play are somehow connected to war, and we enjoyed them all. Head Shots, Grenade kills and what not, but we’ve never been brought to this side of a War. We have always heard of the words ‘Collateral Damage’ , well 11 Bit Studios’ This War of Mine doesn’t just makes us a part of it but puts us right in the middle of it and that too as Civilians. This War of Mine successfully drew a thick line between Fighting in a Wars and Living in One. It explores the the frightful realities of living in war. The game is as gruesome as the opening message which states – “In modern war… You will die like a dog for no good reason.”

It is a real time strategy game and the game’s true motive is to survive through the War, and we begin with three characters who are desperately trying to make it through. Each day in the game plays out in two phases, In the daytime the fear of war confines the characters to a Ravaged multi story building, displayed through a side on cross section and rendered with a sketchy look in the environment.

In the Gameplay, players have to assign the character with tasks such as making food, building stuff, clearing ruble, providing aid. While on the second phase, which is after 8:00 p.m. one of the characters scavenges for resources in locations like abandoned buildings, schools, hospitals, churches and more, while the others sleep or stand guard. Locations with abundance of resources are either inhabited or defended. In the scavenging part walking and running comes at the risk of making noise but sneaking is quite and slow as well and everything outside line of sight is blurred giving the exploration a nail biting experience. Inhabitants can track you through sound or spot you will investigating, their response however depends on the situation they may cause no trouble at all or be extremely violent.

This War of Mine successfully drew a thick line between Fighting in a Wars and Living in One.

Whether you’re plundering an abandoned house or risking everything in a high security hotel the feeling on being in danger never leaves your mind. The feeling of desperation never leaves you and even one mistake can surely get you killed, no matter how much you scavenge, it will never be enough. Each day is hopeless attempt to survive another. The fear of life is endless because if a character dies there is no re-spawning no second chances, that is the brilliance of this game.

The Bartering systems is very cruel. The traders doesn’t care about the condition your’re in, most of the common stuff you’ll be having will be worthless to him. Every adverse move you make will negatively impact the mental state of your characters, making them sad, depressed and even suicidal. Good deeds may pay off in the future, but mostly its too late.

This War of Mine is one the most amazing games of 2014, and it has also won many awards to prove its success. The game is unique and exceptional in many way and you wouldn’t be able stop for hours once you start playing. Also to mention it is a very light game, so you wouldn’t have any GPU or graphic related issues.
